Description

MIL-C-5541 D  (POWDER)

Immersion or spray process for providing aluminium with a golden iridescent chemical film or coating of the surface conversion type, for protection against corrosion and improvement of paint adhesion.

MIL-C-5541 D meets the requirements of MIL-DTL-81706B Type I Class 1A & 3, MIL-DTL-5541F Type I Class 1A & 3 and the equivalent European specification according to DIN 50939/1988.

Pre-Cleaning:

Before immersion in the MIL-C-5541 D tank, surfaces must be free from grease, soils and oxides. RADOL 22/22F (5% in the water at room temperature) is recommended for cleaning and deoxidizing. Parts must thoroughly be rinsed with clean water after cleaning. Rinse tanks should be kept pure and refilled daily.

Usage

MIL-C-5541 D  is normally used diluted with water in a concentration of 0,5 – 1%. Mix until all solids are dissolved and ascertain the pH 1,5 – 2,1 by adding small amounts of ammonium hydroxide or nitric acid. The pH will probably be within the correct operating range without additions. The clean aluminium parts are immersed in the MIL-C-5541 D  bath at room temperatures of about 30 seconds to 5 minutes depending on the aluminium alloy and the condition of the solution. For spray operations the contact time is 15-30 seconds. After treatment the parts should be rinsed thoroughly with water. First in water at ambient temperature and then with deionized water. The final dry-off may be accomplished by conventional methods; however, temperature during drying should not exceed 60oC.

MIL-C-5541 D  (LIQUID)

MIL-C-5541 D -L is a special liquid product for providing aluminium with a golden iridescent chemical film or coating of the surface conversion type, for protection against corrosion and improvement of paint adhesion.
